Rally《集結》

Commissioned by Asia Society Hong Kong Center

When I visit Asia Society Hong Kong at the first time, I saw the track on the floor in the centre. Maybe you and I didn’t notice that Former Explosives Magazine Compound has been spans almost 150 years. And morse code is essential for transporting goods on trains start from 150 years ago.

I gather above historical pieces and make it into this artwork. Using sound of morse code to make a “Rally”. This sound sculpture explores the fluidity of communication. Presented in a series of towers, each contains transmitters and receivers that relay a message in Morse code. A commander begins the signal in a top-down vertical flow of information. The message is then resonated across the rest of the assembly in rhythmic unison. While there is a hierarchy, it is the lateral rapport between the towers that strengthen the coded message, highlighting the power of communication and solidarity.
